Favorite Closing Credits

Damn I love these closing credits from Buckaroo Banzai. I love the music, I love the simplicity of it, I love how Pretty Boy's outfit changes, I love the ninja toe-shoes of which I went through at least 6 pairs from Pier 1 in the days of my youth, I love how the black kid and old black guy look like Scatman Crothers, and I hope the day comes soon when all this 70's fashion revival shit is gone and the 80's revival shit begins...

The 80s revival stuff has been in full force for at LEAST 3 years. Probably longer. The movies, the fashion, the fixation with 80s technology--I'm pretty tired of all of it. God! All the girls in those ugly, UGLY-ass, melty-looking Pat Benetar boots! It's like the re-emergence of a 20-year old fart. The gray dress shoes and pleated pants as far as the eye can see cannot be very far away.

I thought 80's retro culture outstayed its welcome long before "the wedding singer" came out, and that was ten years ago. But that's irrelevant. Back to the subject: I admire "buckaroo banzai" for trying to do something different. It's hard to imagine a big-budget risk like that in these days. The closing credits is my favorite bit as well, as peter weller could almost make me turn gay (as long as he was doing his burroughs impression from "naked lunch"). But the movie is totally incomprehensible. There must've been massive coke-snorting at every stage from script to screen.

I saw the movie probably half a dozen times, but I distinctly recall only 3 moments: The end credits, the initial speed barrier/fast car thing, and (my favorite moment) when the alien, disguised as a black man in a silver suit, is carrying a big pink box from a car or van to a front door, and there's some guy harassing him, saying, "hey, nice suit, man. Whatcha got in the big pink box?"
